Dr Lanka Cooray is a sessional Consultant Psychiatrist with psychiatric areas of interest including intellectual disability, family violence and ADHD. She has extensive psychiatric experience, spanning over 15 years.
Lanka takes a sensitive approach to patient care, developing a strong therapeutic relationship with her patients in which they feel secure and understood. She believes in empowering her patients, providing information and insights into their disorder to encourage them to be able to make informed decisions on their own recovery.
In 2000, Dr Cooray completed her Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka. Since attaining her degree, she has conducted educational sessions to GPs and nursing staff and provided formal education to medical students becoming an honorary lecturer at Monash University. She has extensive research experience in both Sri Lanka and Australia, with research projects and clinical audits.
